Tracks
Track work is at the core of what Aarsleff Rail does. Many of our projects include track work as an integral part, supported by complementary competencies when needed. We work on all types of track and handle any kind of rail, sleeper, or gauge.
Types of Track Work
Mechanical track renewal is ideal for projects involving longer sections of track. This method is fast and efficient, carried out with an advanced track renewal train in a single streamlined workflow. Aarsleff Rail has extensive experience and strong knowledge of the specialized machinery required for this work.
Our expertise is the result of long-standing collaborations with selected international partners. Mechanical track renewal projects often involve a broad range of disciplines, including railway safety, earthworks, signaling, and traction current. Thanks to our experienced teams and strong project management, we bring all these elements together in a single, coordinated execution.

Manual track construction is a flexible solution for building or renewing shorter stretches of track—especially where access is limited or the use of large track-laying machines isn’t feasible. Aarsleff Rail has completed countless manual track projects, both large and small.
Our competencies have been strengthened from the wide variety of projects we have successfully completed. We have worked on manual track renewal projects on railway lines with traffic in neighbouring tracks, in track possessions on single track lines, built new track on railways and light rail systems as well as in urban environment with heavy traffic.
Precise alignment and tamping are essential for a safe and comfortable ride. Aarsleff Rail has performed these services for major infrastructure owners as well as smaller clients with just a few hundred meters of track. We have a selection of tamping machines and can work independent of subcontractors.
Our smaller machines can be deployed quickly and transported via our own heavy-load trailer. We’ve completed tamping projects across Denmark, Sweden, and Norway, with a skilled and experienced multinational team. For larger jobs, our large tamper delivers both speed and reliability.
We also use a variety of track geometry trolleys to measure alignment—either in support of tamping work or as stand-alone services for track inspections.

Track welding plays a critical role in safety, passenger comfort, and long-term maintenance. High-quality welds are essential, which is why since 2010, Aarsleff Rail has held the Production Management Certificate – Quality Requirements for Welding (DS/EN ISO 3834-2). This certification ensures consistent procedures and high welding quality across all projects.
Our team includes certified welders who are also qualified to install bonded insulated rail joints and perform rail destressing for continuously welded rail. We are experienced in several welding techniques, including:
- Flash butt welding (machine-based)
- Aluminothermic (thermite) welding
- Mold welding
- Filler repair welding
We weld all types of rails, including heavy-lift crane rails, and source all necessary equipment from our own machine park—including our own flash butt welding machine.
Worn rails require timely replacement, and we bring extensive experience from projects across Scandinavia involving various rail types, sleepers, and fastening systems. Our work includes electrified and non-electrified lines, as well as track in tunnels.
Using our own rail unloading and replacement equipment, we carry out this work with our in-house teams—ensuring quality, speed, and full control over the process.
In both railway and light rail systems, safety and operational reliability are top priorities. Thorough inspection and proper commissioning are essential to minimize risk and ensure smooth, reliable service.
Aarsleff Rail offers a range of inspection services covering the entire lifecycle of railway and light rail infrastructure. Our services include:
- Commissioning Inspection: Verifies that newly constructed or upgraded facilities meet all technical and safety requirements before entering service.
- Safety Inspection: Identifies potential risks and deficiencies to maintain a safe and secure operating environment.
- Maintenance Inspection: Provides regular checks that help prevent failures and extend infrastructure lifespan through proactive maintenance.
We also offer experienced commissioning managers who oversee and coordinate the entire commissioning process—ensuring all steps follow regulations and schedules.
Through our expertise, precision, and commitment to safety, we contribute to the development of reliable, sustainable, and efficient railway infrastructure.
