Meet Sara

Surveyor

Sara Øian

Sara has been working at Aarsleff Rail since 2017 as a surveyor. She studied Mapping and Surveying at Gauldal Technical College and first became familiar with the company during a placement period when it was still known as Teknobygg. During that time, she had the opportunity to join the surveyors on various projects, gaining hands-on experience in different tasks. The welcoming atmosphere and the diverse projects left such a positive impression on her that when the opportunity arose, she was eager to join the company full-time.

Since then, Sara has been involved in a wide range of projects, including the excavation of the building site for the new Norwegian Ocean Technology Center, fiber installation along the railway from Stjørdal to Steinkjer, Lund turnaround area, Hommelvik treatment plant, and the construction of train platforms at Vikhammer, Ranheim, Namsskogan, and Trofors.

Looking back, her very first project remains one of the most memorable experiences. It involved installing a noise barrier using heavy, prefabricated concrete foundations, and she was responsible for marking the exact placement of each foundation to ensure everything fit together perfectly. “It felt like a huge responsibility, and the learning curve was steep. But what really stands out in my memory is the overwhelming support and help I received from the team on-site,” she recalls. Many of those colleagues are still part of her daily work life, something she considers a privilege.

For Sara, the work environment at Aarsleff Rail is one of the company’s greatest strengths. She describes it as social, inclusive, and supportive, where colleagues get to know each other well. Beyond the work itself, she appreciates that employees have the chance to participate in social gatherings outside of working hours, further strengthening the sense of community.

Without hesitation, Sara says that the best part of working at Aarsleff Rail is the people. “The team I work with is, without a doubt, what makes this job so great!” she says with a smile.
