Copenhagen South Station
In June 2024 the new Copenhagen metro line M4 opened, and Copenhagen South became a central hub for Copenhagen travellers: serving Metro, bus, two S-train lines as well as regional and long-distance trains. Copenhagen South is expected to become one of the country’s busiest stations in 2024, with 37,000 daily users.
With five contracts from Metroselskabet, Aarsleff Rail has played a major role in the construction of the station—both above and below ground—across a wide range of disciplines. Since 2018, we have worked in several phases, covering track work, railway installations and signalling, large concrete structures, catenary systems, and earth and drainage works.

Passenger Safety and VDC Modelling
All work at Copenhagen South has taken place in tight space conditions, with most of the station’s rail lines in continuous operation. Thousands of passengers passed through the changing work areas daily, and our experience from other high-traffic station projects proved vital to managing passenger flows efficiently and safely.
We have used digital design and planning tools (VDC and BIM) throughout the project. These have been essential to a project of this size and complexity, helping optimise the construction process and avoid clashes—such as between temporary bracing and formwork. 3D and 4D modelling have also supported logistics planning, including the placement of building materials and machinery on site.
