Varberg Farehamnen
The Municipality of Varberg planned the construction of a new port section in Farehamnen, located west of Varberg’s urban area, near Getterön Airport and a Natura 2000-protected nature reserve. The new port section replaced the existing facility, which consisted of gravel-covered driving and storage areas for pulpwood. Over time, the area had been gradually expanded and was located directly adjacent to the sea.

Aarsleff Rail played a central role in this project, overseeing the railway construction within the port area, including track 42 as part of the contract. Additionally, a supplementary order was placed for the construction of track 41, further increasing capacity and improving the flexibility of goods flow within the port.
The development of the new port section also included:
- Dredging operations
- Construction of a 325-meter quay and a 140-meter pier
- Creation of a 90,000 m² terminal area
- Expansion of water and sewage systems
- Installation of electrical and fiber optic infrastructure
Additionally, dredging work was carried out south of the quay, along with the safe disposal of dredged materials.
The terminal area is used for storage and handling of sawn timber, pulpwood, and pulp storage. The port functions as a key transshipment hub between sea, rail, and road transport, while also freeing up land for the development of the new Västerport district.
