Expansion of Dybbølsbro

More room for cyclists

Aarsleff Rail A/S in cooperation with Per Aarsleff A/S has carried out an extension of Dybbølsbro between Kalvebod Brygge and Ingerslevgade for Copenhagen Municipality.

The project consists of 2 new steel bridges: a new steel bridge over Kalvebod Brygge at Fisketorvet and a new steel bridge suspended between the existing road bridge and the pedestrian bridge from Kalvebod Brygge to Ingerslevsgade.

The new bridge creates better space for 21.000 cyclists, 7.000 cars and 13.000 pedestrian that crosses the bridges daily.

Railway in operation during work

The steel bridge from Kalvebod Brygge to Ingerslevsgade crosses no less than 12 heavily trafficked railway tracks, including the busiest part of the Copenhagen S-train system.

The operation on the tracks has been maintained during the vast majority of the work. Tasks requiring track possessions, have been performed at night. Consequently, all lifting of bridge elements and tasks related to the catenary system, have been carried out in the evening and night hours in order to disturb the traffic as little as possible.

Throughout the execution period, we have handled the planning of track possessions, traction power interruptions, resource allocation and a significant part of the project´s logistics.

Special skills

In addition of the strengthening of existing foundations, columns and replacing bridge bearings, we have established all the scaffolding and temporary work platforms to carry out the project.

Our wide range of experience with projects close to railway installations, and major stations renovations in the middle of a large city with lots of traffic, has given the client security for clear lines of communication to DSB and Banedanmark.

We have rebuilt the traction current system for the tracks under the bridge that were suspended in existing foundations, just as we have lowered an existing traction current portal and established equipotential bonding.

Cooperation

In cooperation with Per Aarsleff, our construction department prepared the two existing bridges for the installation of the central steel bridge and installed 55 bridge elements with a weight of 8 tons each. Together with Banedanmark, we prepared a detailed plan for all work with impact on railway operations.

FACTS

In total 440 tons steel in the form of 55 bridge elements.
Each component weight 8 tons and is 3,6 m large and 10 m long.
